‘Remixes’ at ‘Flying Monkey’ …

It was a great compliment to be asked to participate in an exhibition collaboration with talented Cairns artist Rick Beresford … and the results of that partnership are now up on the walls of the Flying Monkey Gallery.

Rick – an accomplished artist, curator and arts educator – asked if he could ‘work’ on several of my images … and the startling resulting works now form the exhibition ‘The Remixes’.

The exhibition is now open to the public at the Flying Monkey … and the official launch/opening will be at the unusual time of 10am (yup … in the morning) next Saturday 17th June (just before I jump on a plane for Melbourne!). So please do drop in Saturday to the Flying Monkey on Sheridan Street Cairns, grab yourself a coffee and some breakfast and say ‘Hi’ !

Below is one of the results of our collaboration from an image I made of three year old Harmony in the indigenous community of Kowrowa west of Kuranda.

“Unexpected” at Flying Monkey …

Thanks to an invitation from curator Glen O’Malley I am one of the participants in a new Cairns exhibition – “Unexpected” – that opened to the public today Monday 10th August at the Flying Monkey Gallery and Cafe in Cairns. The collection – a combination of the work of ten photographers experienced and emerging – comprises 27 images across a very broad spectrum of photographic styles.

The artists involved are Kerry-Ann Collins, Jonas Ericson, Jennifer Frei, Michael Marzik, Sarah Jane, Glen O’Malley, Kerry Trapnell, Ann Vardanega, Anthony Vardanega and myself. For several it is their first showing.

The official exhibition launch and social event is next Saturday 15th August 6pm at Flying Monkey 154 Sheridan Street, Cairns and veteran photographer Gary Herbert will be performing the opening honours.

Below I’ve posted just one of my exhibition works – “Margaret Puts the Kettle On” (a candid image of wonderful environmentalist Margaret Thorsborne) – and a couple of others from the show – “Don’t Cage Me In” (middle) by Anthony Vardanega  and “The Corny Tricks You Tried” (bottom) by Glen O’Malley.

The exhibition runs to 29th August … would be great to see you at Saturday’s opening or just drop in anytime to Flying Monkey for a coffee and browse.
